> ABOUT US > OUR HISTORY

Since 1956, the Pulice Team has dedicated itself to constructing quality projects for hundreds of public and private owners, from freeways, bridges and dams to underground utilities and golf courses. A family owned business, the company is characterized by mutual respect between employer and employees and unwavering integrity in its relationships with project owners.

The company's founder, William A. "Bill" Pulice, was one of ten children of an immigrant coal miner. Bill came to Arizona in 1948, and built his business through hard work and ambition. In the beginning, operating under the name of William Pulice Concrete Construction, the company specialized in constructing curbs, gutters and sidewalks for prominent developers like John F. Long and Knoell Homes. By the early 1960's, with assistance from brothers Tony, Joe, and Jim, Bill had expanded into grading, paving, and structural concrete work and began competing for Arizona Highway Department (later ADOT) projects. The company quickly established a reputation for finishing difficult projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Bill served as President of the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Arizona Chapter in 1971 and 1981, and has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the construction industry and local charities. His accomplishments have forever secured his place as a pioneer in Arizona transportation.

In 1969, the company incorporated as Pulice Construction, Inc. and over the next decade leadership transferred to Bill's elder son, W. Ronald "Ron" Pulice. Ron continued his father's legacy by working toward the common good of the industry and becoming a two-time AGC Arizona Chapter President in 1987 and 1989. During the 1970's and 1980's, the company built many memorable projects and won several awards. Highlights include the infrastructure for over 1000 subdivisions, Castle Hot Springs and Park Access Road, Sun Valley Parkway, Signal Butte Floodwater Retaining Structure, Volkswagen Test Track, and two of the Valley's premier golf courses; the Tournament Players Club (home of the FBR Open) and Karsten Golf Course at Arizona State University.

In 1986, the company turned its focus to freeway construction. Ron's bold vision of becoming a premier urban freeway builder began by expanding his equipment fleet, and hiring a talented group of Project Managers, Engineers, and Estimators that would subsequently become one of the most respected groups in the Southwest. By the mid 1990's, Pulice Construction, Inc. was building more miles of new freeway alignment per year than any other contractor, including several segments of the Red Mountain, Piestewa Peak, and Pima Freeways, among others.

Today, the company has maintained its dominance of the urban freeway market and added Design-Build and CM @ Risk services to its arsenal. The company's Alternative Delivery Department is staffed with a group of experienced professionals ready to serve owners that prefer an alternative to the Bid-Build process.

The future of heavy construction will hold many new challenges. To better serve its customers and address the changing times, Pulice Construction is committed to high quality management, the continued training of all employees, and investment in state-of-the-art equipment. Every employee at Pulice Construction is responsible for providing the same integrity and quality of workmanship that has kept the company on the cutting edge of an ever-changing marketplace.
