August 11, 2007 - Company Loses Founding Father and Arizona Highway Construction Pioneer
William "Bill" Pulice was a man always inspired to meet whatever challenge or struggle came his way. He moved people who knew him in ways that allowed others to feel heartful and engaged in the power of his intimacy. Born the son of Italian immigrant parents on August 3, 1925, his humble beginnings with nine brothers and sisters had few material belongings, but a plentiful supply of love and devotion to family and faith. He seemed to be destined by his wily and robust character. After a short time underground in the coal mines of West Virginia, memorable times working for the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 40's, he served in the military, receiving an honorable discharge. While still a young man, Bill was preparing himself for the larger vision of his future upon his marriage to Edith Maria Massacci, moving to Phoenix with their newborn son Ron in the fall of 1948. Soon after arriving in Phoenix, his quest began to become one of Arizona's pioneer highway builders, succeeding in establishing an outstanding construction company. Bill was a man of faith and generosity, devoted to his community of love, but he was especially fond of his Loreto Sisters of St. Simon and Jude. He helped them find comfort in retirement by building them a home to contemplate and pray and live happily in later years. He enjoyed the challenge of assisting the newly emerging Catholic diocese of Phoenix with his enormous gifted ability to inspire others to give to this worthy cause. In his professional life Bill gave tirelessly to bring the Arizona Chapter of General Contractors into its modern era, serving in numerous capacities, including its president more than once. Whether in business or in his ordinary life, he seemed to offer people a sense of purpose and meaning, causing good feeling and heartfulness that often is missing in the hectic life we live. Like an old oak tree of wisdom, his deep rooted love of humanness will never be forgotten. Bill Pulice was 82 years old.
