Safety Specialist and army veteran Robert Spencer is passionate about keeping others around him safe.
On a Pulice – a FlatironDragados company project site in North Phoenix, Safety Specialist Robert Spencer is constantly on the move. Making sure “housekeeping” is in order. Making sure a saw’s cord is in good shape. Looking at gloves for signs of wear.
That daily attention to detail reflects the mindset behind Construction Safety Week 2026 and its theme, “All In Together.” This year’s focus aligns closely with how Robert approaches his role on Pulice projects across Arizona: notice the risks, address them directly and never lose sight of what is at stake.
A career shaped by experience
Robert is a recent addition to Pulice’s Health & Safety team, although he previously served as a subcontractor on the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. That experience on the transformational Phoenix highway project made an impression.
“The professionalism of the whole organization definitely propelled me to want to be a full-time employee with Pulice,” Robert says.
His path to safety was built over time. An Army veteran, Robert says he worked on utilities and repaired vital equipment before moving into residential construction in Washington state. Later, he held transportation leadership roles where safety was already a major part of the job, from proper lifting and loading to DOT compliance.
Today, Robert brings more than a decade of safety-related experience to the role, along with a newly completed bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, and a thirst to add more credentials to his resume.
Making A Difference Every Day
For the safety specialist, the job is about helping operations succeed without compromising people’s well-being.
“They are trying to get a job done, and I’m trying to help them and assist them on getting it done safely,” Robert says.
What he loves most is the combination of problem-solving, teamwork and responsibility.
He values the camaraderie on site and the shared goal behind every conversation, inspection and correction: making sure people go home safe at the end of the day.
How does Pulice implement “Safety Above All”?
Pulice’s safety message, “Safety Above All,” resonates with Robert because it sets a clear priority. To him, it means safety comes before deadlines, distractions and the pressure to just get the job done. It also means thinking ahead, planning the work correctly and reducing the chance that anyone gets hurt.
We are fortunate to have dedicated safety professionals like Robert on our team, who take that responsibility seriously and want every employee to get home safely.
