Pulice mentorship powers student career growth

Juan Perez is gaining hands-on experience at Pulice – a FlatironDragados company as an intern on the 303L & I-17 project while also building his future in the classroom at Arizona State University. Now, the second-year construction management and technology major has another major achievement to celebrate: winning a $10,000 direct scholarship from Beaver's Charitable Trust.

“I was thrilled when I learned I won the scholarship, as I knew that this would not only be a pivotal point for me in my career, but it also proved how my environment and the people I have met have propelled me closer to career growth,” Juan said.

The scholarship marks an important milestone for Juan, who was excited to receive the news. It also reflects the discipline and drive he has shown both at school and in the field. As an intern in Phoenix, Juan has had the opportunity to learn alongside experienced professionals while contributing to a key project.

Project Manager Mike Alvarez, Juan’s mentor, wrote his letter of recommendation for the scholarship. His support speaks to the impression Juan has made through his work ethic and commitment to learning.

“Pulice has made me a stronger construction leader, not only for the future but for the present as well, as I have learned to take more accountability and responsibility for tasks and assignments,” Juan said.

Derek Boland, his professor at Arizona State University, also shared his excitement about the recognition. “Juan is a great student and very deserving of this scholarship,” Boland said. “His effort in the classroom and in the field demonstrates his commitment to setting goals and working hard to achieve them.”

Boland also pointed to the broader opportunity for students entering the industry. “The heavy construction industry continues to provide students with great opportunities and rewarding challenges,” he said. “I am extremely happy for and proud of Juan for representing ASU as a recipient of this scholarship from the Beaver's Charitable Trust. I look forward to watching his accomplishments and contributions to the heavy construction industry.”

Congratulations to Juan on this well-earned achievement, and thank you for being a valuable member of our team.
