The Challenge

This project constructs five miles of toll lanes in the median of the existing SH 288, including the reconstruction of the FM 518/SH 288 intersection and additional corridor aesthetic enhancements. Major scope includes 11 roadway bridges, expansion from 3 to 5 lanes in each direction, 2-span girder bridge widenings, 80,000 SF of MSE Wall, 17,000 SF of soil nail walls, and 55,000 LF of reinforced concrete pipe, and box culverts.

The construction project started in 2016, and the commute these past few years has not been easy for residents who live on the south side of Harris County, in Pearland, and beyond. There are 10.3 miles of a brand new highway, two lanes going north and two lanes going south.

“It will help with congestion relief on Highway 288,” he said. “We are excited to see the Brazoria County Expressway completed, allowing our residents to spend less time in traffic and more time at home with their families.”

Matt Sebesta, Brazoria County Judge

Conclusion

The entire project cost $8.15 million. But it will cost you anywhere from 45 cents to $3.20 per toll. The toll pricing is based on peak hours. For more information, click here. The Expressway will be EZTag only, so if you don’t have a tag, you’ll need to get one through the Harris County Toll Road Authority.
