Gila River Bridge

The Gila River Bridge project is replacing aging Interstate 10 bridges in Pinal County, approximately 30 miles south of Phoenix, to improve safety, reliability and long-term resiliency.  

Originally constructed in 1964, the existing structures are nearing the end of their service life and have been impacted by multiple flooding events that brought water dangerously close to the bridge girders.

The project includes replacing the existing two-lane bridges with new three-lane bridges featuring full-width shoulders, widening the roadway approaches, and adding a concrete median barrier. A key feature of the project is the construction of deeper bridge foundations and a higher bridge profile, which will better withstand future flood events and help reduce the risk of roadway closures. These improvements increase capacity while creating a more resilient crossing along a critical section of Interstate 10.
