Crews complete intensive beam placement operation, setting the stage for new bridges in Tyler County.
The US-69 Tyler County project marked steady progress with the completion of a 10-day beam placement operation.
At the Hickory Creek Northbound Bridge, crews installed 70 precast beams. The largest beam weighed in at 133,000 pounds and stretched an impressive 119.5 feet in length.
At the Tributary to Hickory Creek #1 Northbound Bridge, crews placed 27 beams with the heaviest weighing 46,000 pounds.
All lifts were carried out with the help of an 850-ton Demag crane providing the strength and stability needed to move and set beams of this scale safely.
In total, 97 beams were placed in less than two weeks.
Improvements cover approximately 13 miles of US-69, from FM 1003 in Kountze (Hardin County) north to FM1943 in Tyler County.
Roadway widening will provide:
- Two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction
- Inside and outside shoulders
- A 100-foot-wide vegetated median
The project is expected to be completed by 2027.
